MEDBASE CDS
Patient-specific clinical decision support at the point of care
Supporting safer and informed medication decisions directly within clinical workflows. Designed for clinicians, pharmacists, healthcare organisations and healthcare IT providers.
Clinical decision support matters
Medication-related harm remains a major challenge in healthcare. As patients increasingly live with multiple conditions and multiple medications, treatment decisions become more complex and the risk of medication-related problems increases. Medication-related hospitalisations place a substantial burden on healthcare systems, yet many of these events may be preventable through evidence-based medication management and access to reliable clinical decision support.

From data to decision – in real time
Medbase CDS is a CE-certified medical device designed to support medication-related decisions within everyday clinical workflows. Decision support is automatically generated when prescribing, reviewing or renewing medication, and whenever new patient information becomes available, such as laboratory results, diagnoses or updates to the medication list. As patient information changes, medication-related risks are continuously reassessed, enabling patient-specific alerts, reminders and recommendations to be delivered directly at the point of care.
By combining patient-specific data with clinically validated medication knowledge, Medbase CDS helps identify medication-related risks, optimise treatment decisions and improve medication safety within the clinical workflow.

Supporting medication decisions across clinical workflows
Medication decisions are made throughout the patient journey. Medbase CDS is designed to integrate into existing clinical workflows rather than requiring new ones.
Decision support may be triggered during prescribing, treatment review, medication list updates, when new laboratory results or diagnoses become available, during dispensing, or at the point of medication administration.
Whether used by physicians, pharmacists or other healthcare professionals, Medbase CDS delivers patient-specific decision support directly within existing systems and workflows.
97% of healthcare professionals would choose Medbase CDS to support medication-related clinical decisions, and 100% agreed it improves decision-making efficiency. *
Medbase CDS in practice
A 60-year-old woman presents with fever and persistent cough during a local mycoplasma outbreak. Her medical history includes depression, hypertension and hypercholesterolaemia. Current medication includes citalopram, ramipril and rosuvastatin.
Following diagnosis of right-sided bronchopneumonia, azithromycin treatment is considered. Medbase CDS automatically identifies a clinically relevant interaction between azithromycin and citalopram highlighting the risk of QT-prolongation.
Relevant guidance is delivered directly within the clinical workflow, enabling the clinician to confidently select an appropriate alternative treatment option.
Broad medication safety coverage
The quality of clinical decision support depends on the quality of the underlying knowledge.
Medbase CDS is built on Medbase Knowledgebase, a comprehensive collection of scientifically validated medication safety information, curated by experts in clinical pharmacology. Its broad coverage of clinically relevant medication information supports patient-specific decision support across a wide range of clinical situations.
Together, these medication safety areas provide comprehensive coverage of clinically relevant medication risks and treatment considerations.
Medication safety areas supported by Medbase CDS include:
- Drug interactions
- Drug treatment in renal failure and nephrotoxic medications
- Drug treatment during pregnancy
- Drug treatment during breastfeeding
- Maximum dosage
Transparent and evidence-based
Every recommendation is supported by clinically curated and scientifically validated medication knowledge, based on the latest evidence and fully traceable to original scientific sources.
- Developed and maintained by experts in clinical pharmacology
- Continuously updated based on the latest peer-reviewed publications and Summaries of Product Characteristics (SPCs)
- References to original scientific sources, including direct links to PubMed
- Clear explanations of the rationale behind alerts, recommendations and dosage guidance
- Full transparent evidence supporting clinical guidance
