For nearly two decades, we have been on a mission to provide the most reliable scientifically backed drug safety information. Our journey began in 2007 with a clear goal: to equip healthcare professionals with the highest quality drug information at their fingertips.
Founded by Dr. Kari Laine and Dr. Tuomas Korhonen, Medbase emerged from a mission to tackle the critical issue of drug interactions, which can lead to adverse drug reactions, hospitalisation and even death. Understanding that aging populations and polypharmacy would only intensify these challenges, our founders set out to develop innovative solutions.
‘We knew it wasn’t enough to simply list drug interactions. An information tool must also provide expert advice and recommendations on how to prevent or manage clinical issues,’ says Laine. ‘Moreover, the information needs to be user-friendly and tailored to the local context,’ adds Korhonen.
Their collaboration with Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm County Centre led to the creation of Medbase’s first pharmacological database, focused on drug interactions. This marked the beginning of Medbase’s journey toward transforming drug safety.
Expanding the scope of drug safety
Medbase has since expanded its offerings to include nine additional datasets, each offering critical insights into all relevant areas of drug safety. These advancements have been shaped by the founders’ extensive experience, gathered from thousands of medication consultations with healthcare professionals before Medbase was established. This practical knowledge ensures that Medbase delivers exactly what healthcare professionals seek in their daily practice.
To make this information easily accessible, Medbase offers advanced software solutions that seamlessly integrate into healthcare workflows. Today, Medbase’s drug information is used in over 20 countries, helping hundreds of thousands of healthcare professionals make informed decisions in their everyday work.
