We are delighted to welcome Pavel Šilhan as our new Sales Manager for the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Pavel brings extensive experience in healthcare digitalisation and ICT, having led major digital transformation projects for hospitals, regional authorities and national health systems – always bridging the needs of clinicians, IT experts and decision-makers.

His expertise covers hospital information systems, interoperability, eHealth and telemedicine, and he combines technical know-how with practical, on-the-ground solutions that meet real clinical and operational needs. At Medbase, he will support healthcare professionals, hospitals and healthcare IT providers in the region with proven solutions to deliver safer and more effective drug therapy.

Opening the local conversation on drug safety

Pavel will work closely with hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and software providers to enable healthcare professionals with seamless access to drug therapy related clinical decision support at the point of care. He will align Medbase’s approach with national eHealth strategies and local digitalisation efforts and embed Medbase’s drug information into everyday workflows by building collaborations across the healthcare ecosystem.

“My role is to open up the topic of drug safety more broadly and present the many benefits of Medbase solutions to healthcare professionals. My first priorities are increasing the visibility of medication safety as a critical part of patient treatment in the Czech and Slovak markets and explaining the value so that safer prescribing and treatment becomes the standard of care.”

Leveraging existing digital infrastructure – region ready for change

Both the Czech Republic and Slovakia are well positioned for Medbase’s solutions. Pavel foresees a fast route to impact by building on existing infrastructure.

“Mature ePrescription systems and digital national drug repositories in both countries provide a comprehensive prescription in one place, providing a strong foundation for practical safety solutions and clinical decision support that help prevent medication errors supporting  safer prescribing effectively.”

With core infrastructure already in place, adoption becomes easier and the potential benefits for patient safety are accelerated. The biggest opportunity lies in using that available infrastructure to deliver decision support and evidence-based drug information that integrates with local systems and follows interoperability standards such as SNOMED and HL7. Medbase’s flexibility for localisation, from local languages to drug registries, positions us well to support clinicians, pharmacists and healthcare organisations locally.

Pavel is realistic about the region’s challenges, noting demographic pressures that reduce healthcare availability and increase clinicians’ workload. Added to that is the sheer volume and complexity of drug information – interactions, dosing variations, contraindications and pharmacogenetic considerations – which is increasingly difficult for clinicians to track and apply without digital support during routine care. In that context, digital solutions that improve both safety and efficiency are not just nice to have – they are essential.

Building partnerships for safer care

What motivates Pavel is the mix of digital health innovation and people. As he says:

“This sector is constantly evolving, which means you need to bring new solutions into play. Sales is also about meeting people and building networks – something I really value.”

Outside work he plays badminton, enjoys downhill skiing, follows many sports as a fan, and enjoys long walks with his dog, Benny. These activities help him recharge.
